Honorable Mention On Dreaming Charles Levenstein At night and in the morning we dream transparent tales, fictions coded with unambiguous images, the only enigma, why dream at all when the night shift tells the dayshift every secret? Unless you’re dreaming me and when you wake will discover I’m a minor character in your epic. Perhaps you noticed me on the subway – or in the crowd applauding your performance. Perhaps you saw me in the Spanish rain through a limousine window. Maybe not. I waited in the clinic on a hard plastic chair the day you were diagnosed; sipped coffee in the cafeteria when you stumbled by, drunk with bad news. I was in the shelter parking lot when you chose your new kitten so happy, still wondered at the old man who leaned on an SUV without triggering the alarm. I have invaded your dreams, I apologize. I suppose it’s right that I bear the burden of your hopes and fears: Trespassers can’t be choosers.
